Not every small town can claim connections with some of the most notable bits of American lore and history. Mt. Alto, WV, is blessed to be home to multiple descendants of the McCoy family of the famous Hatfield and McCoy feud that still sparks interest in people around the world. Hilltop Country Kitchen and Catering’s owner, Brenda Whitman, is a direct descendant of the McCoy family, and knows all of the stories. Stop on in and let her spin you a yarn– you will be regaled with tales of the past while you eat some of our world-famous lasagna or pulled pork!
We were founded by Russell and Vicy Wheeler in 1977 as Crossroads Restaurant. Those early days were filled with many happy memories and stories, such that only a small restaurant in a town where everyone knows each can form. In 1992, their daughter Brenda took over the restaurant and continues their fine tradition.
She renamed us Hilltop Pizza and expanded the menu to include: pizzas, subs, and an assortment of appetizers. In 2012, our operations were expanded to include catering.
We have recently been reintroduced as Hilltop Country Kitchen and Catering, still operated by the descendants of the original McCoys!
The best food comes not from a mass-produced kitchen or a fast food joint, but from the stove of someone that truly cares about the recipe, and how the food will be received by those eating it.
This is our second generation of serving the public the best tasting food in the area. We grew up surrounded by the simple joy of helping others eat good, healthy, meals.
As people of faith, we believe that no one should go hungry. For even if they cannot pay, the good Lord will always reward us for showing compassion and care to those less fortunate in our community.
